Christians, when ever I do something good I feel like God might think that I'm trying to earn my salvation?

I have always loved Jesus and I am aware that one cannot earn salvation because our good works are of filthy rags to our father. Whenever I feed a cat, or give a poor man money, I feel like God might think I'm trying to earn my salvation. Whenever I do something kind, it feels good and I tell God about how good it felt. Oh and also, Does faith with works apply here? am I doing works through faith by helping others and being respectful and kind? all of this came naturally after I developed a serious relationship with Jesus.
