How to determine the polarity of a molecule w/o calculating electronegativty?

So everywhere I've looked online tells me to determine the polarity of a compound based on it's electronegativity. But in my Chemistry class we have not been taught how to calculate the actual value of electronegativity. How would you determine the polarity of a molecule without finding the value of electronegativty?
