Is the load affected if the circuit was shorted?

i combined the male plugs of my speakers and assured that it was connected on the same colors (the black and red, i don't know what to call it, i think it's called polarity, anyway) and when i plugged it, it sparked. i think it was shorted when i taped it. now, will the speakers still work?
