Is slavery a filthy abomination?

In Great Britain we've had Tony Blair saying "I'm sorry about slavery" and David Cameron saying "As a Conservative, I won't be apologising about slavery". I myself think either of those positions are wanting because they don't grasp the gravity about it. Slavery is wrong.
