Is there anyone who can explain the tennis rankings to me?

I thought that college football was terrible and that the BCS was shammed but how can Novak djokovic be #1 just by making it to the final. He can lose the final against nadal or whoever and be #1 without winning anything BULLSHIT. Serena loses #1 because she has a life threatening injury and she was the defending WImbeldon champion, this is why sports like Tennis will never get the true interest that it deserves.
